#1...Broody Hen's Chick...

Boo!...

OK, here is the worst part.... Every time Broody Hen got up for any reason, some other hen went in there and laid an additional egg. So, I was left with what were the possibilities of life in all its wonder, deserted by day 2, getting colder, and so what could I do but pop them in the incubator? They were cold all day, but tonight when I got home from the School of Rock Show , (more on that later,) one was hatching...pics to come...They are all Spread Out, hatch-date-wise...shit!!
What the hell am I supposed to do with all these chicks?
My son accused me of going all right-to-life with these chicken eggs....I mean, couldn't any egg be a baby? Didn't the miracle eggs hatch from the refrigerator? Didn't these get cold for an entire day? Didn't they deserve a chance even if they end up in the pot?...um...hmmm....
And how could anyone not believe in evolution when you see a non-broody girl smart enough to sneak her eggs into the nest of a broody? Not every chicken does that, which indicates that there are chickens that are smarter or that have stronger instincts about these things....If those are the ones who's babies survive, well, you tell me!
This is what we refer to, here on the Rooster Ranch, as an evangelical pro choice (of nest box) chicken environment.
