Friday the 13th Chicken Blogging...
Its the only Friday the 13th in 2008, or so says my Despair calendar....Tim Russert passed away suddenly today, which has left me with mixed feelings, sadness, and hours of tributes on MSNBC...
But out at the chicken coop the sun is setting and the babies are getting ready to bed down behind the food can...the Frizzle Turkens are roosting up in the little hay barn, the little Seramas are in the nest boxes, and the roosters who are trying to ruin my life, along with their hens, are roosting outside in the porch coop...Its beautiful and cool out...and the babies, a mixed lot of fancy breeds and straight up good layers, are just about 2 months old...

you have some handsome chickens there...... i would have to keep my george far away.
The Roosters, as much as they crow and act like freaks, have kicked some serious dog butt around here....I was just watching them attack crows!
Even a hawk would have a hard time getting a good grab on any of the girls.
My dogs are afraid to go outside except into their fenced enclosure where the chickens don't go...and this includes the Boston Terrier who ATE a young chicken and also killed a sick chicken that she was able to corner alone in the mud room!
I love to see the roo strut away with a mouthful of fur!
All the babies this year are girls, because its thought that each roo needs 6 girls to keep them busy enough so they don't sit and crow all day....and crow in the middle of the night...ugh!
