Marc Maron is Back!!!

OK...Ive been waiting for so long for this and now, finally, I can report that the funny is back!!! The Marc Maron show is beginning on Air America's Los Angeles Affiliate, KTLK 1190 AM, tomorrow 2-28-06, at 10PM Western time. It runs for 2 hours....if you like the show or even just like Marc from before, please write in to your local affiliate and to Air America to ask for inclusion in the local lineup and also regular inclusion in the national feed even if its in the middle of the night to start!
Because Air America Radio has been bad about lining up affiliates, or even letting them know that the show is available, and because the show plays from the KTLK webpage from 1AM to 3 AM East Coast time, there has been alot of figuring going on about how best to capture the stream.
The answer for me has been Replay A/V, which is a great little program that converts streams from even multiple sources at the same time, into MP3's and loads them into iTunes and/or the iPod. I have found it to be very stable and reliable and I have been using it for weeks now.
Since some people I know have been having trouble with the settings I am going to post my easy set up here. Please post questions in comments or on the MorningSeditionist blog where I hang out.

For those of you checking in hoping for another blog post...sorry that its been so long but I've been horribly sick with some bronchitis from hell and unable to do much of anything...but I will get something up soon....something should be coming to me any minute now....

Very Simple Replay A/V instructions for PC, Windows XP

Open Replay and click on “Media Guide” in the lower left hand corner.
Click on the second button down called “2169 online Radio Stations”
Click on “Browse All Stations” (list takes a minute to come up.)
Scroll down to “KTLK 1150 AM Burbank, CA” (it’s almost halfway down the page and listed alphabetically.)
Click “ADD” button and the replay “Edit Show Schedule” window will pop up. (This window pops up when you click the “Options” button too so if you have a stream address for any other show you want to save you can go immediately to Options and go from there.) Click on the name of the station and you can type in “Marc Maron Show” or whatever you want to call it, and leave the station identification or delete it.
You are on the “Basic” tab to start. Click on “Capture by Downloading.”
Click on “Schedule” tab and click the “Repeating” button. Put a check in Tues-Sat (east coast) or M-F (west coast.) in this instance.
Go to top and look at “Start Recording At” and highlight the hour by clicking on it and scroll with the little arrows to get you your time.( EST is 1:00 AM. )Then do the same in “Stop Recording At” and put in your time (EST is 3:00 AM) note: I added a few minutes around this time until I know for sure the timing. If it starts at: 06 past the hour then I will probably adjust it as I go along. In the future if there are games on or any reason why it might run over you can always add an hour or two to the end of the stream just to be sure you catch it.)
Click on “Output” tab. Under “Record to This Format” click on little arrow and in drop down select “Stream Capture as MP3”
Below that see “After Recording Convert to”. I had that on ACC for a while because it is supposed to be book-markable, but I haven’t had time to look at it yet and it doesn’t seem to be bookmarked in my iPod as in being able to fast forward so I wouldnt bother.
If you use iTunes click on the “Add to iTunes” box. (I don’t know about the CD burner that comes with this program but let me know if you think you’ll use it and Ill figure it out. It could be that it burns the show automatically to a CD and its ready for you when you wake up….the iTunes Add thing puts it right on your player for you, if you’re using an MP3, but you can also just stream the show or burn a CD from iTunes too.)
Click “OK.” This box will close.
Now click on “Main Settings” right below the “Media Guide” button in the main box.
Under the “Folders” heading you want to tell it where to save the output to. You can take the default here (but you will have to find it so I would write it down so you can trace it in the morning if you need to) or you can do the following which is easier in general.
Right click on desktop. Go to “New” and then “folder”
A New folder will appear on your desktop. Name it Replay or whatever you want.
Click on the “Browse” Button and on the dropdown menu scan down from your desktop and find the Replay folder that you just made and click on it. This will put the path to that folder in the “save output files…” address bar. I also have the “Temporary Files Folder” material going there so it’s all in one handy spot.
In the main window right click on the name of the show and on the dropdown menu click on “Tune to Station” Just to check that the stream is working. A box will open and show you that the station is working.

In the morning you should have a folder with a nice new MP3 in it of Marc Maron!!
And you will also have the show either in iTunes or on your MP3 player if you chose those options.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER AT NIGHT!! KEEP THE REPLAY OPENED AND THE COMPUTER ON.
Kim Komando says that it is actually better to leave it on because there are parts that break more easily if you turn it off and on. Besides the electric bill which shouldn’t be too bad if you have a screen saver, it is not bad for the computer. Just be sure that you schedule your virus protection to run every day and also that you run your spyware removers every day.

ONE MORE THING!!
Go to “Start” and then “Control Panel” and then “Power Options”
Make sure that under “Turn off Hard Discs” and “System Standby” are set to “Never”
I have mine set on “Minimal Power Management” but I have the Monitor turn off after 2 hours. The Monitor is not important and it may be the biggest electricity hog.
Also, go to “Hibernate” tab and make sure that the “Enable Hibernation” is not checked. If it is, uncheck it.
